Quick update on lifts and trails for the weekend

December 14, 2007

Hi Folks,

It's going to be a great, fantastic, wonderful, amazing, and incredible weekend at Telluride Ski Resort!

All chairs will be turning. Here are some additional details regarding trails:

All runs on Chair 14 / Gold Hill are scheduled to open (with the possibility of a delay for avalanche control but patrol tells me it's looking good).

Chair 12 / Prospect Bowl, will be open with excellent conditions. All runs will be open except Patrol says that Confidence, Crystal, La Rosa, Genevieve might open Saturday but don't hold them to it and don't expect these runs open early - due to additional avalanche work.

On the north side of the resort, of course all runs off Chair 9 are open except East Drain. Additional access down to town is also available on Telluride Trail, Coonskin, North Chute, Jaws, and Bail Out.

On Lift 10 the following runs will be open: Sundance, Enchanted Forest, and Double Cabins.

Please do not ski any closed areas.

Enjoy the fantastic conditions! Feel free to post a comment - we love to hear from you! - Dave

Dave's reply: Hi Fritz, not counting the hike-to terrain, we're about 90% open. This is very good for mid-December. And what we do have open is exceptionally good. It's a great start to the season for Telluride.

Dave, great job keeping us informed with the blog. Looking forward to a week of great skiing over the New Year Holiday.

Any recommendations on how to spend New Years? We are planning the torchlite parade with the kiddos but will be looking to leave them with grandma for the evening's activities.

Thanks and keep up the great communication!

Jim

Dave's reply: Hi Jim, We're offering a sleigh ride dinner party at Gorrono Ranch that evening. See http://tellurideskiresort.com/TellSki/info/sleighride-dinners.aspx

Hi Dave!

I'm an employee at the resort and think you're doing a bang up job! What a great place to live and work. Thanks for the season pass, and I look forward to skiing all the great new terrain when the time comes for it to open.

-Tom

PS- Do you always alpine ski, or should we keep an eye out for you on a snowboard and/or dropping a knee on Teles?

Dave's reply: Hi Tom, Thanks for the kind remarks-I owe everything to the fantastic staff at TSG!

I switch back and forth between alpine and tele. Have 3 pinned for many years.

Enjoy the season!

Dave,

I went to On The Snow.com to see the snow report and notices a new format for webcams.  Mine is there, along with Lift 4, and the Visitor’s Center. The new format is nice…. Like a film strip.  When your new cams get up, be sure to get them up there. ( I am anxiously waiting too).  You said OnTheSnow.com is one of your primary promotion tools.  The last post of “News” for Telluride was in November, and LOTS has happened since then.  Perhaps you or your staff can keep it fresh.  Just cut and paste some of your blog announcements and photos and Voila!

I have been reading your blog and putting in a short one once in a while.  I see some of your “Administrator” posts are at 1AM in the morning.  I identify with that…some of my best email work is done after everyone else is asleep.  I can really focus.  By the way, several of the reviews at OnTheSnow.com are mine.  You do Nice work.  I am impressed with your energy, tolerance, fairness, deep experience, and attention to detail.  Keep it up as much as you can.  You are becoming the Voice of Telluride, and an excellent one at that!

Finally, I know where the Lift 4 webcam is located… in an office, roughly over TRACKS.  I was up there with Mosley and Curt and Candy Shugars last New Years to see the fireworks and snowmobile jumping.  I knew the camera view, so I looked around to find it.  The office was wide open.  I had always wanted to reduce the sky in the image, partly because the sun is damaging the camera from being right into the lens for long periods.  Well, I adjusted the camera down a bit to take out so much sky and sun, and to show the base of the run better.  This adjustment lasted a few months, but the camera has tilted up again.  You see, the cable pulls down on the camera, directing it upward, and it is behind a mini-blind that I am sure gets adjusted itself once in a while.  The mini-blind contacts it.  If I had control over the camera, I would tack the wire up somehow so the camera would remain pointed correctly, and I would again adjust it to show less sky and more mountain, snow, skiers, etc.  However, if pointed too far down, it shows the roof below.  It needs just the right adjustment.  I thought I had it right.  Perhaps now you are aware of it, and I feel comfortable telling you the story of my surreptitious adjustment, the camera view can be optimized.

We arrive Sunday to see for ourselves your handiwork.  I look forward to seeing you there.

           - Paul Claeyssens

Dave's reply: Hi Paul, Thanks for your nice comments. Good suggestion on the Chair 4 webcam and onthesnow.com - we'll do that. Should have 2 new webcams up in 2 weeks. See you soon.

Hi Dave

You previously said you were discussing where to put the jumps and half pipe which are usually under lift 4. Have you come to a desision yet? I think it would be great to have the left side freed up so it's a long fun all the way down see forever. (if that makes any sense)

Thanks

Ben

Dave's reply: Hoot's Park and the Superpipe will be in the same location as last year, we're looking at new locations for new features. I'll post the info soon. Thanks.

Love to see all the snow.....being from Florida, really love seeing the azure blue skys.  As a regular visitor (5 weeks a year winter and summer) to T-ride for the last 10 or so years, let me personally thank you for the way you have come in and gotten us excited about our upcoming Christmas vacation.  You can never please everyone but keep trying.  Will we have music up at Gorrono's in the afternoon.  Love to meet you and buy you something cold to drink while basking in the afternoon sun.  Later/alan

Dave's reply: Hi Al, Yes - we've got the live music going at Gorrono already - just like before. Let me know when you arrive - I'd be happy to meet with you!

Lift 9 really needs a leg rest ...    My legs always fall asleep on the lift

Dave's reply: Hi Dillon, I looked into that. I agree but we'd have to take several chairs off if we installed them due to weight.
