November 24 - SNOW UPDATE!

Hi Folks,

This is so awesome! By the time the storm ended we recieved 12 inches up at the telemetry site near the top of Chair 6. Also, temperatures have allowed for continued snowmaking.

I had to go for a walk this morning and check it out. Here are a few pictures I'm sure you'll enjoy.

The Town of Telluride looks happy in white:

Village Bypass with a foot of powder on the completed snowmaking piles:

The snowmaking crew has done an outstanding job:

The beautiful Gorrono Ranch awaits opening:

Snowmaking is almost complete below Gorrono Ranch on Village Bypass:

Mountain Village is looking great too. The snowmaking pile at the bottom of Chair 4 is almost as tall as the chairlift terminal behind:

The Peaks Resort and Golden Door Spa at Mountain Village:

A big THANK YOU goes out to our fantastic snowmaking crew! See you on the slopes November 30th!

Let us know if you have any questions or thoughts by posting a comment - we love to hear from you!

Enjoy the weekend - Dave

Hey Dave - love the pictures

I'm coming to town a bit earlier this year. Was wondering how long it "usually" (last year for example...) takes for all the other lifts to open (mid-december?). I also hear that new section up on lift 12 won't be open till January, is that correct?

Thanks

Dave's reply: Hi G, yes, mid-December is when we are scheduled to have all lifts open, assuming the region is getting normal snow. The hike-to terrain on Black Iron Bowl and Palmyra Peak will likely take more time to open as it is really rugged and requires lots of natural snow. Thanks for choosing Telluride for your vacation!

WOW that looks SICK!!!!!!!!!! but in the web cam pics on the chair 4 webcam it looks like already alot of snow has already dried up... oh and do you think that the hoot brown terrain park off of chair 4 will be open. and i know you have been telling people about this and that and you dont know what will and will not be open but do you think that there is any chance lift 10 will be open by NEXT monday

Dave's reply: Hi Alyan, what you see on the Chair 4 webcam is some grass sticking through the snow on Misty Maiden above where we've been making snow so far. The snowmaking route we've been working on is right of that shot up Boomerang. Grasses are about 18 to 24 inches tall and we received a little less than a foot of settled snow on lower Misty. On Sunday, the crew is going to move several of the snowmaking machines and start building a base on lower Misty Maiden as well as up at the top of Chair 4.

The Hoot Brown terrain park won't be open when the ski area opens as our snowmaking resources have been allocated to the other areas I've been talking about but we will set some rails up for opening day.

It would take another big snowstorm before the terrain off of Chair 10 will open as we don' t have snowmaking over in that pod except at the very bottom.

ok thanks now i have another question or two umm WHERE WOULD the rails be????? would they be just hand rails or will there be some fun boxes as well and one last thing when you say another big storm do you mean like the one that just occored firday or bigger... and also it looks like that may be possible because NEXT firday, saturday and sunday all look like there may be quite a bit of snow you have know idea what it means to me for you keeping me updated i really appreciate it.

Dave's reply: Howdy Alyan. We have not decided where the rails will go - we were talking about it this week though and decided to make sure and put some up for opening day, including some fun boxes. To open the Chair 10 pod, we'd need another storm with more snow than the last one to get good coverage over there.

WOW AWESOME PICS....soo good to see whiter photos:-) Im getting excited bout t-ride and from what i see from the pics i wanna explore the whole area so i might come again in march since next week the skiing terrain might still be limited....speaking of which....how many runs are you planning on opening? also ill be staying at the mountain village will i be able to ski in/out of there? thanks a lot for updates Dave....

Dave's reply: Hi Bart, Yes, things are looking up. When we open 11/30 we'll only have a couple of runs at the most - unless we get another good snowstorm. One more good storm would allow us to open quite a bit of terrain.

Many condos and houses are ski in/ ski out in MV. I would need to know where you're staying to say for sure.

Hi Dave, We had opening day at Mt Hood Meadows this weekend, we miss you. I wanted to say thanks for making the difference here at MHM. I wish you the best in your new endeavor, you guys at Telluride have a great new boss!

Dave's reply: Hi Sue, Wow, thanks for the nice compliment :)  We miss all our friends there too. Looks like MHM had a good opening and will be adding more terrain with more snow on the way. All is good in Telluride - everyone from the community and the company have been so nice and welcoming to the Riley family. Thanks for checking in and have a great ski season!

doo you think that you can post another blog tomorow and is there a BIG possibility that lift 8 and 9 will be open by next sunday

Dave's reply: I've got to run to Montrose for awhile but might be able to post when I get back. Chair 8 and 9 are unlikely on opening day.

Dave, Why don't you have crews up boot packing and rolling Gold Hill and Prospect?  VERY IMPORTANT before the next cycle!  Locals will be doing their part skiing and compacting the big front, gold hill etc. But you need to get your troops up there asap.

Dave's reply: Yep, we understand. The staff will get on it.
